
A Book of 50 Brief and Inspiring Devotions By Lynne Thompson Make breakfast and clean up. Drive tweenage daughter to church so that she can serve at Vacation Bible School. Go back home with 10-year-old-son, pay bills and make picnic lunch. Pick daughter up from VBS, eat lunch on the church lawn and pick up four additional children for sports camp. Drive to neighboring town to drop off all children (except for daughter) at sports camp. Take daughter to Orthodontist appointment. Drive daughter to pre-algebra class on the other side of town. Go back to pick up daughter from pre-algebra class. Drive to nearby town to pick up the sports camp group. Meet friend at prearranged drop-off point to unload four sport-camp kids. Stop at a drive-thru for dinner. Drive to nearby town to pick up husband from work. Drop off daughter at church junior high group on the way to the athletic club. Arrive at athletic club with husband and son for workout (elliptical, sit ups). Load everyone up and return to church to pick up daughter. Go home and collapse. There are mothers across the nation who have a list equal to or more horrific than this. They are the true road warriors, a sisterhood bound by their desire to make sure their children take advantage of the athletic, academic, musical, social and spiritual opportunities afforded them. And that they get to these events on time! They have been given the tag “soccer moms” because they spend enormous amounts of time transporting their progeny to these various events. But they are more than that… As Christian mothers they are also passionate about their children’s final destination. They pray that their little boys, with their over-active hormones and fearless risk-taking antics, grow up to be godly men who someday lead their families. That their little girls, with their quick words and dramatic responses, develop into virtuous women who someday nurture families of their own. Sometimes though it is easy to lose perspective.
